Enhance the Look of Your Home
Most people are motivated to install Window Awnings for aesthetic reasons. Awnings provide an easy, beautiful way to enhance the look of your home. They are available in a variety of patterns and styles and they can be retractable. This makes it easy for you to match the style and décor of your home.
Solar radiation entering through your windows is responsible for approximately 20 percent of the load on an air conditioner. An awning can reduce air-conditioning costs by as much as 25%.
Window awnings will also protect your drapes, furniture and carpet from excessive fading, caused by harmful UV rays. By installing awnings you are doing your part to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Save Money On Your Monthly Utility Bills
Having awnings placed on several windows can mean significant savings on your monthly utility bills. Awnings can reduce a home’s internal temperature by 8° to 15° F (5°C – 8°C).
“Studies by the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers show that during the period of the day when the sun shines directly on southern-facing windows, a fabric awning reduces heat gain by 55 to 65 percent. For western exposure, the reduction in heat gain is 72 to 77 percent.”

Retractable Awnings
Have you ever imagined yourself relaxing on your patio or deck without the blazing summer heat coming down on you? If you’re looking to create a cool comfortable shaded space around your home a RETRACTABLE AWNING may be the affordable solution for you.
Retractable awnings are an ideal way to block sun and rain on a patio or deck without any permanent changes to the structure of your home.
Unlike a permanent patio or deck cover, retractable awnings mount directly to your structure and expand over the attached patio or deck when needed, and easily retracted.
Retractable awnings can be manually or automatically operated. If you choose the automatic option, retractable awnings are motorized. You can operate it either remotely with a handheld control or wired to operate like a light switch.
Comfort and Function, You Get Both
Awnings will conserve energy by shading windows and prevent drapes and furnishings from excessive fading. Independent testing has shown that awnings can block up to 75% of the sun’s harmful UV rays and heat.
They can also reduce a room’s temperature by 8-15 degrees (F). Bottom line, your home will be cooler in the summer and your furniture will look newer for longer.
At Norwood Tent and Awning we offer RETRACTABLE AWNINGS made with top-quality components and fabrics which means they will stand up to all weather conditions and last for years.
You’ll get access to the European-designed, high-quality Mitjavila® hardware that comes in a wide variety of colours, styles and options.

Measuring Your Windows
Awning Width
Inside to outside of your brick molding or window frame.
Window Height
Inside to outside of your brick molding or window frame.
Awning Drop
Half the Window height.
Awning Projection
Projection is typically 2? less than the awning drop to allow the awning to properly retract within itself.
Notes:
Although custom sizes are available, typically, a standard awning would cover half the window height with the Valance dropping a further 6? below.
Select a Traditional style window awning for a stationary, slider, or horizontally opening windows. Select a Box style awning for casement windows that crank open vertically.
Typically, boxed awnings would not have ropes & pullies installed on a casement style window unless adequate space is allowed for clearance.
Ropes and pullies are required, typically installed with right-hand controls. Please specify either left or right-hand controls.

Our .16 gauge Galvalume steel frames provide strength and stability while ensuring your awnings will be virtually maintenance-free for years to come.

Selecting Your Awning Fabric
Fabrics and materials come in many different colours and styles. The material we used is based on the type of awning that best meets your requirements. You can make your selection from these leading brands.
SUNBRELLA® by Glenn Raven Mills Inc. is made from 100% solution-dyed acrylic fiber which gives it colour brightness that looks the same on either side. Being a woven fabric, Sunbrella® is translucent and breathes, allowing heat and moisture to escape.
Diklon 32® by DICKSON ELBERTON MILLS is 100% solution-dyed acrylic, giving it bright, clear colors that appear the same from either side.
The exclusive Perlgard® finish of Diklon 32® gives it high leak resistance, providing protection from rain, yet is air permeable, allowing heat and moisture to escape.
All these factors mean Diklon 32® will keep your awnings looking good for years. Diklon 32® gives you more choices than any other fabric of its type.
WEBLON® awning fabric by the ASTRUP COMPANY is available in over 100 styles in solids, mono and multicolor stripes, textures, and floral and geometric prints on the lining. Awning Fabric Care
How To Maintain Your Awnings
Protect Your Investment, Keep Your Awnings Clean To Prevent Mildew Dickson and Sunbrella Care
- SUNBRELLA® and DICKLON32® 100% acrylic fabrics should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt, roof particles, etc., are allowed to accumulate on and become embedded in the fabric. The fabric can be cleaned without being removed from the frame.
- Simply brush off any loose dirt, roof particles, etc.; hose down and clean with a mild natural soap in lukewarm water (no more than 40 degrees Celsius.) Rinse thoroughly to remove the soap.
*** DO NOT USE DETERGENTS!
- For stubborn stains, soak the fabric for approximately twenty minutes in a solution of no more than 1/2 cup (4 oz.) of bleach and 1/4 cup (2 oz.) of natural soap per gallon of water at approximately 40 degrees Celsius.
- A non-chlorine bleach is recommended for fabrics with a urethane coating. Rinse thoroughly in cold water to remove all of the soap.
Note: Excessive soaking in bleach can deteriorate sewing threads.
